About
Why we hire this way
Because the way we build software has changed — and the way we hire should be honest about it.
The Dark Software Factory, in five sentences
At QUADRA energy, humans write specifications and autonomous agents write the code — we call this the Dark Software Factory, after the “lights-out” factories of manufacturing. Every piece of work starts as a seven-field spec: Intent, Trigger, Data inputs, Business logic, Guardrails, Output, Success criteria. Agents implement, test and review against those specs; humans gate the decisions that matter. In this model the scarce skill is no longer typing code — it is spec literacy: describing a business process so precisely that an autonomous system gets it right. This very website was built that way: specced by a human, implemented by agents.
Why a broken report, of all things?
Because it is the job, miniaturised. Renewable-energy back-office work is exactly this: several raw data sources, an aggregation chain someone built years ago, a report nobody fully trusts, and the question “why doesn't this number match?”. The challenge asks you to reverse-engineer such a process from its data, find what's wrong, and — the actual craft — write the spec that makes the correct process reproducible by an agent. The scenario and every number in it are synthetic and fictitious; no real company, asset or report is involved.
Who we look for
We hire Business Analysts and Business Architects — people who sit between the business problem and the machine that solves it. You don't need to be a software engineer. You need to dissect a fuzzy operational problem into data, logic, thresholds and checkable outcomes, and you need to be comfortable directing agents rather than doing every step by hand. If the challenge feels like a puzzle worth a weekend, you are probably who we are looking for.
We are currently hiring for both roles — as part of this search, we would like to hear from you:
- Business Analyst — full job posting
- Business Architect — full job posting
What happens with your submission
Every submission is read and reviewed by a human on the hiring team. An automatic score helps us rank and triage — it is strictly advisory and never decides anything. We look at how your spec is written: completeness, parameter precision, the quality of your guardrails and success criteria, and whether your agent's result backs it up. Shortlisted applicants are contacted personally via the e-mail address they registered with. Submissions are used for nothing else — see the legal notes below and the privacy notice.
Fairness
The evaluation is skill-based only. We do not ask for a CV, a photo, your age, gender or origin — the form collects an e-mail address and a display name, plus whatever you volunteer with your submission. Scores support the review; every decision is made by a human. There is no automated rejection in this process, by design.
Legal notes.
- The challenge is a voluntary skills demonstration. Participation does not create an employment relationship and is not remunerated.
- All challenge data is synthetic and fictitious. Assets, operators, prices and measurements are generated for this challenge and do not describe any real installation or company.
- Your submissions are used solely for evaluation in this hiring process — never as training data and never as production work.
- QUADRA energy may end the challenge at any time. There is no legal claim to evaluation or feedback („Es besteht kein Rechtsanspruch auf Bewertung oder Feedback“).
